Local Outreach

Let’s do something together…

There are many ways to reach out to others in need. We hope one or more of the FPC Monterey outreach partners and projects below will capture your imagination and help you serve God by serving others.

  • Church to Church (St. Marys Food Pantry)
    • We collect non-perishable food items in the Little Red Wagon.
    • We buy $200 worth of high protein items each month.
    • We deliver goods & volunteer at the pantry.
  • Dorothys Kitchen (Salinas)
    • We make 150 sandwiches on the 3rd Sunday of each month for the food ministry of Dorothy’s Place homeless shelter and drop-in center.
    • We deliver the sandwiches promptly to ensure that guests will have a healthy sack dinner that night.
  • Gleaning  (harvesting crops after the professional pickers have finished)
    • We go into the fields to harvest vegetables and fruit over the summer.
    • We give the produce to the Food Bank for Monterey County, which serves thousands of hungry neighbors.
  • Food Bank for Monterey County
    • In addition to donating our produce from gleaning, we financially support the Food Bank, which is the largest supplier of emergency food in the county.
  • Salvation Army
    • We financially support the food ministry of the Good Samaritan Center, which serves homeless and low-income clients with hot meals and emergency food boxes.

  • I-HELP (overnight lodging for homeless men and women)
    • We host 25+ men every month on the 3rd Monday and 5th Wednesday and 5-8 women every month on the 4th Monday and 5th Tuesday; we cook, serve and eat with our brothers and sisters as we have for the past 25 years.
    • We are active in I-HELP leadership, fundraising, & advocacy as a flagship congregation yearly pledging significant financial support.
  • Gathering for Women (luncheon and drop-in center for women lacking adequate shelter)
    • We cook, serve, and eat with our sisters and offer a safe, warm place for them to be off the streets for a couple hours every Tuesday.
    • We provide financial support as well as collect clothing and hygiene items for the service center, which provides resources and referrals to women in need.

  • Joining Hands Benefit Shop (retail arm of Interfaith Outreach of Carmel, IOC)
    • We donate items, shop, and work in the store; the money raised in the shop is distributed in grants by the IOC which fund programs to keep people in their homes and prevent homelessness.
  • Salvation Army
    • We financially support the Emergency Housing Assistance fund of the Good Samaritan Center, which provides assistance to low-income clients facing homelessness.

At-Risk Children

  •  Angel Tree (Community Partnership for Youth)
    • We buy, wrap, and deliver Christmas gifts and books to local children in this prevention program that provides year-round positive alternatives to gangs, drugs, and violence while reinforcing children’s individual strengths.

  • Cards for Inmates at Salinas Valley State Prison
    • We collect blank greeting cards year-round for inmates to send to their family members and loved ones.
