The Reverend Mark Peake

Mark was born in Burlington,Rev. Mark Peake North Carolina but grew up in the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch country. Mark attended Elizabethtown College in Pennsylvania where he earned a B.A. in History. From there Mark traveled to Boston’s historic north shore where he earned the Master of Divinity degree from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. Mark describes himself as a Christ follower and as passionate both for issues of personal living and social justice firmly rooted in a Biblical ethic. Mark served churches in Michigan and New Jersey until he was called to Monterey in the Summer of 2010. Mark and Kimberley (a native of Santa Cruz) have been married since 1997 and have two school-aged boys.

The Reverend Katie Day

A native of Jacksonville, Florida, Katie received her BA in Theatre Arts from Furman University in 2001.  She received her Masters of Divinity in 2006 from Columbia Theological Seminary, and served churches in Georgia and Florida before being called to FPC Monterey in 2013.  She lives with her husband, Kevin, a middle school teacher who is also a Presbyterian pastor; their son, Elijah; as well as a cat, Fred, and two dogs, Lola and Mr. Wiggins.  They enjoy pub trivia, disc golf, camping, movies, board games, and reading, and Katie performs locally in musical theatre.

Director of Music (11am Service): John Koza

In addition to his role at FPC Monterey,  John serves as Music Director of the Camerata Singers, the Assistant Conductor for the Carmel Bach Festival Chorus and is on the adjunct faculty of Hartnell College . He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Music (cum laude) and received his Master’s Degree in Choral Conducting at San José State University.

Director of Music (9am Service): Jason Stout

Born and raised in California, Jason has been singing in church since he could walk, and picked up the guitar at the age of 15. Throughout his life, he has had the privilege of being in the music ministry at Northwest Church in Fresno, Crossroads Grace Community Church in Manteca, Cornerstone Fellowship in Livermore, Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, and even in the 562nd Air Force National Guard Band of the West Coast at the Channel Islands ANG Station in Oxnard. Jason has lived in Monterey since 2015 and came to join the FPC Monterey family in 2017 after performing along side the Rev. Katie Day in a local production of Godspell. He is an X-Ray Tech by trade, as well as an Audio Engineer, an avid computer and guitar build enthusiast, and is also a theater performer.

Director of Children’s Ministry: Linda Thompson 

Linda has a Bachelor’s Degree in Christian Education with a minor in music as well as a Masters Degree in Education. Over many years she has volunteered as a Sunday School Teacher, Christian Education Director, and children’s choir director. She is presently serving part-time as the Children’s Ministry Director here at FPC Monterey.  Linda works alongside an outstanding team of volunteers to provide quality Christian and Bible Education for children from birth through 5th grade. Linda is also a pianist and vocalist with 25+ years of experience leading praise teams and children’s choirs, as well as directing the Christmas Eve Children’s Musical.

Organist: Margaret Bellisomi

Margaret has been playing the piano since before the age of five. In the fifth grade, she was accompanist for her church’s youth choir of about forty members. After moving to Fremont, she received a last minute call to substitute for a church organist and from that Sunday until now, she has been playing the organ every Sunday (almost). In addition to serving at this church, Margaret plays for the choral classes at San Leandro High School, and plays for the Centerville Community Chorale. In her spare time, she teaches piano lessons.

Monique Garretson, Director of MMO Preschool

Monique was born in San Jose, but has called many places home both in and outside the USA.   Monique has been teaching for 28 years.  She has been at MMO for 15 years; 5 of those years as Director.  She lives with her wife, Bona, a middle school teacher, and their cats in Pacific Grove.   They love going to and watching San Francisco Giants games, traveling, game nights, movies, TV, the outdoors, and spending time with family and friends. Monique also has a passion for photography.
